1. Driver update from older NT-driver

        !!!! Attention !!!!!

If the older NT 4.0 driver is still installed (where have you been the last 2 years?):

If you have installed NT driver 3.82 or below earlier, then there is no automatic de-installation at this time. Windows 2000 doesn't remove any entry from its registry when de-installing the device in the device manager. To clean your system before installing the new PnP driver proceed as follows:

- De-install the 'ST24/96 and Nuendo 96/52' in the Device Manager.
- Exit the Tray program.

- In \system32 delete the files

digi9652.dll
digi96.dll
digiconf.exe

The file audio32PCI.dll is part of the old driver, but can not be deleted at this time.

- In \system32\drivers delete the file 'audio32PCI.sys'

- Now start the registry editor (regedit.exe) and delete everything which is found when searching for 'audio32PCI' and 'DIGI96'. The entry 'Legacy Audio32PCI' can not be deleted - no problem.

!!!! Be careful to not delete any other entries, or your system might turn unusable !!!!

Reboot the system. Now the file 'audio32PCI.dll' can be deleted. Also the automatic Plug and play hardware detection is started. Install new driver as described under 2.

2. Driver update under Windows 2000/XP

To prevent Windows 2000/XP to perform only partial driver updates, be sure NOT to let Windows search for the driver! Instead tell Windows what to do:

- Under Control Panel /System /Device Manager /Sound, Video and Game Controllers /Steinberg ST24/96 or Nuendo 96/52 /Properties /Driver you'll find the 'Update Driver' button. Select 'Install from a list or specific location (advanced)', click 'Next', select 'Don't search I will choose the driver to install', click 'Next', then 'Have Disk'. Now point to the driver update.

-------------------------------------------

3. Installation under Windows 2000/XP

Insert the card(s)s, boot, enjoy Plug and Play (do not click on 'select from list', simply hit enter until the path to the driver files is asked).

In case the warning message 'Digital signature not found' comes up: Don't worry, continue installation.

When more than one card is installed do not reboot at this time, but first finish the installation process of the other cards. Have a look at the Taskbar - the hardware manager is already started once for each card.

Finally reboot.

In case the installation succeeds ALL supplied driver files will be copied to the system, all cards will be shown with their correct name in the Device Manager, and the System Tray shows the green card symbol to access the Steinberg Settings dialog.
